Princess Marie and Prince Joachim on a new life in the USA

--

In an interview with the major newspaper The Washington Post, Prince Joachim (54) and Princess Marie (48) talk about their new life in the USA.

Princess Marie says that she has several exciting tasks to deal with.

– We have lived here for seven months now, and very few people know who we are, except Danes, the prince tells the newspaper.

Appeared at the White House

On 1 September last year, he took up a new position as defense industry attaché at the Danish embassy in Washington DC.

– The prince will contribute to strengthening the defense industrial cooperation with the USA and Canada as Denmark’s representative, the royal house stated in that connection.

The prince and princess can live anonymously – and still use their titles to attract attention to causes they care about.

Joachim is patron of 60 organisations; Marie has worked with hunger and food waste for several years. Since moving to Washington, she has worked with Veteran Coalition International, a Danish-American non-profit organization focused on long-term care for NATO veterans and their families.

Danske Billed Bladet also reveals that VCI has updated its information on the LinkedIn app. Here it appears that the princess has been given a greater role in the organization – and that she has been appointed as a so-called Honorary Board Director – or honorary board member.

After Queen Margrethe (84) harshly and brutally decided to strip Joachim’s children of the titles of prince and princess at very short notice, many reacted, including the immediate family.

Henrik is confirmed in Paris

– We have progressed, says Prince Joachim in the interview with The Washington Post.

However, Princess Marie admits that it took time to process the shock message from her mother-in-law:

– We were not happy with the way it happened. But it’s a family thing. It is complicated, says Princess Marie – and adds:

– For some people, a title may be superficial, but for the children it is much more than just a title. So are their names. It has been the children’s identity ever since they were born.

Joachim’s older sons have established themselves in adulthood; Nikolai (24) is a model, while Felix (21) attends business school.

His youngest children Henrik (14) and Athena (12) thrive at an international school in Washington.

Prince Joachim and his family have now lived in the United States for seven months, and did not come to Denmark when Queen Margrethe celebrated her 84th birthday recently.
