– Despite the tragedy unfolding on our watch, the Israeli authorities have informed the UN that they will no longer approve any food convoys from UNRWA in the north, says Philippe Lazzarini in a https://twitter.com/UNLazzarini/status/1771917857598693549 Sunday.

– This is outrageous and shows that it is intentional that life-saving aid is prevented during a man-made famine disaster, says Lazzarini and demands that the restrictions be lifted.

Half of Gaza’s population of over 2.3 million are experiencing catastrophic hunger, and the danger of famine is particularly imminent in the north, according to the UN.

UNRWA stated earlier this week that it has now been a full two months since an emergency aid convoy from UNRWA has reached northern Gaza.

– By preventing UNRWA from fulfilling its mandate in Gaza, the clock will tick faster towards famine, and many more will die of hunger, dehydration and lack of shelter, he says further.

– This must not happen. It will be a dark stain on our common humanity, concludes the head of the UN organization which is described as the backbone of all aid work to Gaza.

Israel claims that there is no hunger in the Gaza Strip and that enough food is getting in, in direct contradiction to the UN and aid organizations who believe that Israel is to blame for the fact that not enough emergency aid is getting into Gaza.

Israel further claims that hundreds of trucks filled with emergency aid are waiting for the UN and partner organizations to distribute the aid.
