The police believe the 56-year-old used, among other things, a vacuum cleaner when he beat 61-year-old Øystein Aam to death.

Nord-Troms and Senja district court sentenced him to 13 years in prison. The man must also pay NOK 350,000 in restitution and compensation of NOK 287,616, according to the judgement.

The police believe Aam was dead for eleven days before he was found. Two days later, a man now convicted of murder was arrested and charged in the case.

According to the verdict, the man allegedly beat and abused Aam with several objects – including a vacuum cleaner pipe, a hammer and an ash shovel.

He suffered multiple fractures to his face, crushing injuries to his lower jaw and a number of rib fractures.

VG reported on the verdict first.

In court, the 56-year-old did not plead guilty to the murder, and he said, according to VG, that he does not remember having committed any criminal acts as described in the indictment. But after giving evidence in court, the man turned around.

However, the arrest warrant states that the police found several photos of the deceased Øystein Aam lying bloody on the living room floor on the 56-year-old’s phone.

NRK has been in contact with the 56-year-old’s defense attorney, who says he will not comment on the verdict.
