The first ever Kjetil Hatlebrekke intelligence award goes to Tom Røseth, for his contribution to the development of the intelligence profession.

Tom Røseth, associate professor and main teacher in intelligence at Staff School, is awarded the Kjetil Hatlebrekke intelligence prize 2024.

Røseth leads the Ukraine program at the Norwegian Armed Forces College, which, among other things, gathers experience from the war in Ukraine and researches how society can become more resistant to military and non-military threats.

– Røseth receives the award for his contributions to developing the intelligence profession, protecting democracy and disseminating knowledge about Russia’s warfare and methods, Brigadier Frode Kristoffersen writes in a press release.

Kristoffersen is chairman of the foundation’s Kjetil Hatlebrekke intelligence prize.

Røseth’s book Intelligence Relations in the 21st Century and his role as researcher and head of the Ukraine program are highlighted in the justification.

– Last, but not least, Tom Røseth conveys his knowledge in an impressive way, both through articles on intelligence and the war in Ukraine and also as a subject expert and commentator.

– His willingness to stand up for the media and comment on current and often unclear events is an important contribution to the Norwegian people’s understanding of Russia’s warfare and subversive methods.

Hatlebrekke was internationally recognized as an expert in the field of intelligence and specialist director in the Norwegian Intelligence Service. It was he who proposed creating a prize to promote development and strengthen the dissemination of the subject, before he passed away last year.

The prize in the spirit of Kjetil Hatlebrekke is now being awarded for the very first time. The award can be awarded to both civilians and military. Røseth will be formally presented with the award this summer.

The King’s Center for the Study of Intelligence (KCSI) has also established a prize in Kjetil’s honour. Read more here!
