This is reported by CNN, which refers to a court order in Florida on Tuesday.

In the case, which was actually supposed to go to court from 20 May, Trump is among the defendants for having kept classified documents after he stepped down as president. He is also accused of trying to prevent the authorities from gaining access to the documents.

In her court order on Tuesday, the judge in the case, Aileen Cannon, refers to challenges surrounding using classified documents as evidence in the case, and writes that this must be clarified before there can be any trial with a jury.

In August 2022, FBI agents entered Trump’s residence in Mar-a-Lago in Florida. There they found around 13,000 documents. Around 100 of these were classified, although Trump’s lawyers had previously said that all classified documents had been handed over to US authorities.

According to the indictment, classified documents were found in the home’s bathroom, bedroom, in an office and in a storage room.

31 of the indictments concern violations of the US Espionage Act. Trump, for his part, has claimed that he as president had the authority to declassify the documents and therefore could have them, writes NTB.
