Kåre Jan Tjessem and his wife will probably have to wait until Thursday before they get the car out of the living room.

Tuesday 30 April at 13:46

– Hi Kåre! I’m calling from VG. Has a car appeared in your living room?

– Yes, it went straight up and through the air before it went through our living room wall and landed in the living room, answers Kåre Jan Tjessem.

On Tuesday morning, the car drove along national highway 9, before it drove off the road, across a field, hit a hedge and ended up in the family living room of the Tjessem family in Evje og Hornnes.

NRK mentioned the matter first. Salvage crews with whom they have been in contact at the scene say the work to get the car out is so complicated that it will probably not be removed until Thursday.

They tell NRK that they have never seen anything like it, and that, among other things, a ramp must be built to get the car out of the house.

– How has it been with you?

– Things are going well with us, Tjessem tells VG.

– And the driver then?

– He is physically unharmed and was taken care of by the police.

When asked how it could have happened, Kåre replies that he does not know. He adds that they are calm people at heart, but that it came as a big surprise.

– My wife was the first to go down. She saw a car parked in the living room and a man getting out of the car.

Police: Suspicion of intoxication

To VG, station manager in Setesdal, Kim Asbjørn Haugen, says that the police suspect that the driver must have been driving under the influence of drugs.

– The driver has been produced for a blood test, says Haugen.

– Do you know what the reason behind the accident is?

– No, it’s too early to say, but the driver must have been going very fast because this house is close to the highway but not all the way to the road.

Haugen praises Kåre and his wife for taking it all very calmly.

– You can imagine what it would have been like to wake up to a car crashing into the living room. The family was shocked but has coped with it all in a calm and nice way.
