STORTING (Dagbladet): Today, the Equality Act states that it particularly aims to “better position of women and minorities”.

According to Dagbladet, the Men’s Committee wants to remove the wording about improving women’s position, and thus make the law gender neutral.

The men’s committee hands over its report to Minister of Culture and Equality Lubna Jaffrey at 1.30pm today.

They propose 35 measures for a more equal society.

The then Minister of Culture and Equality Anette Trettebergstuen (Ap) set up the committee in August 2022. By then, 31 years had passed since the so-called men’s role committee under Jens Stoltenberg presented its final report.

The men’s committee is led by Claus Moxnes Jervell. Among the other members are the former football profiles Brede Hangeland and Ola By Rise, FHI director Camilla Stoltenberg and doctor and social debater Wasim Zahid.

Proposals to make the Equality Act gender neutral have been raised in the past. The then Minister for Children and Equality Solveig Horne (Frp) proposed this in 2017, but reversed, among other things, following criticism from the Equality and Discrimination Ombudsman.
