Vinje, Accidents | Man in his 50s seriously injured after snowmobile accident

On the night of Sunday at 01:30, the police received a report of a snowmobile accident at Møsvatn. The police had to go by snowmobile to get to the scene of the accident. A man was injured in the accident and is said to have been unconscious when the rescue helicopter took off from the accident site at 03.00. The man was flown to Ullevål hospital.

– There is a man in his 50s from Telemark who is still seriously, but not life-threatening, injured, says Sigrid Dahl, police station chief in Midt- and West-Telemark to TA on Tuesday.

There were three people who were together at Møsvatn on the night of Sunday.

– What we know so far is that there were two snowmobiles and three people present. They have been to Møsvatn and then one of the scooters has come ashore and gone around, on the mainland side near Hove, says Dahl.

The man who is injured has not yet been questioned, and neither have the other two who were in the group.

– We have tried to get hold of the witnesses, but have not been able to question them yet. When that is done, we will get a closer impression of what has happened, says the police station chief.

The further investigation includes, among other things, examinations of the snowmobile that was used in the accident.

– We have seized the scooter and technical investigations will be carried out on it, said operations manager Tommy Eriksen at the South-East police district to TA on Sunday.

A blood sample was also taken from the man in his 50s after the accident.
