Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, will be operated on for a hernia today, Sunday. This is reported by Reuters, among others.

The news agency also reports that Netanyahu will be back at work “very soon” after the operation.

In the meantime, Justice Minister Yariv Levin will take care of Netanyahu’s duties.

Netanyahu will be under general anesthesia during the operation. The hernia was discovered during a routine check-up yesterday.

The ministry states that Netanyahu will hold a press conference at 18.30 Norwegian time.

A hernia is a protrusion of the peritoneum through a weak point in the wall of the abdominal cavity. Hernias can occur suddenly with great exertion, for example by lifting something heavy, according to the Great Medical Encyclopedia.
