It all started when relatives became worried on Tuesday afternoon. A man in his 80s had not returned home from a fishing trip.
The man was out in the Romsdalsfjord near Molde.
Relatives contacted the police.
A search operation was then launched, and on the night of Wednesday a boat was found at a depth of 100 metres.
The boat was found with the help of a Coast Guard vessel, which has an ROV, a remotely operated underwater robot.
The person was found inside the wheelhouse of the boat. With help from the Coast Guard, the man was recovered, 10 hours after the boat was found, on Wednesday afternoon.
– The deceased will be autopsied. An investigation case has been established. Eventually, we will try to find out why the boat went down, says operations manager, Leif Arne Mork in the Møre and Romsdal police district.
He says that relatives have been informed throughout the campaign.
Although the person has been found, the boat is still at a depth of around 100 metres. They will bring it up eventually.
– There must be a number of resources in place to make it happen, he says.
According to Romsdal’s Budstikke, it is the main rescue center and the insurance company that decide what happens next with the boat.
The search for the deceased was extensive, and according to the police, has covered the entire fjord system on the south side of Molde in the area of Moldefjord, Storfjord and Karlsøyfjord.
