Rumors about a folding iPhone have been a thing for many, without anything concrete and tangible.

In any case, we expect something else to be folded first

For many it would be a dream, if only to see how Apple envisions something Samsung has had on the market with the Z series ever since 2019. You may remember the case from February this year when it emerged that Apple has been researching on a foldable iPhone since 2018, the year before Samsung debuted its. But the market and analysts have always believed it was an iPad or MacBook they would fold or add an extra screen to first, to test the technology in non-Holy Grail products:

“At the same time, the same sources warn that Apple paused the development of the folding iPhone in 2020 (we understand that they are still working on the project, but that the goal in the first instance is not to launch them) and instead set their sights on a folding iPad inwards. This includes an iPad mini with an 8-inch screen. The advantage of trying it with the iPad first is that customers will accept a thicker device, and Apple will be able to test the concept for a less important product group than the iPhone, which is still the company’s most important.”

2027 keeps coming up as the big year

2026 and 2027 were also mentioned at the latest this year as launch years for the folding iPhone, and that Apple has chosen to postpone until 2027. Now the Korean newspaper Alpha Biz claims that Apple has brought in employees from the Vision Pro project to work on folding iPhone, and that Apple will again have adjusted the launch from the fourth quarter of 2026 to the first quarter of 2027. It sounds strange to change from September to early in the year, but Apple may make an exception with a completely new type of iPhone. Regarding the Vision Pro rumor of moving team members, we don’t think Apple is significantly shrinking the Vision group.

Apple is said to have been sent folding panels from Samsung and LG for a long time, but that the company should not have been satisfied that you can see the fold too easily. The screens should have been in the 7 to 8 inch segment.
