Edwin Moses (67) dominated the 400 meter hurdles over a ten-year period around 40 years ago. The American was unbeaten in the “long hurdles” in 122 races from 1977 to 1987. He set the world record in the event four times, the last 47.02 in 1983.

It was lowered to 46.78 by the American Kevin Young in the Olympic final in Barcelona in 1992.

Karsten Warholm (26) erased it when he stormed to 46.70 at Bislett on 1 July a year and a half ago. Warholm’s current world record is 45.94, set during the Olympic final in Tokyo in August 2021.

Karsten Warholm and Edwin Moses met in connection with Bislett’s Diamond League convention almost six years ago. At the time, Warholm’s personal record was 48.49 seconds, and Moses thought it would take a couple of years before the Norwegian 21-year-old would be at his best.

A few months later, he won – with a time of 48.35 seconds – almost sensationally his first WC gold in London.

Ahead of their next meeting in connection with Karsten Warholm’s own convention “Karsten Warholm International” in his hometown of Ulsteinvik on February 2, a change of roles has long since occurred.

Warholm no longer has to look up to Moses, who for his part obviously thinks Warholm is worthy of a role in the documentary film about his own life.

A German production company is behind the Edwin Moses film. It will be shown in cinemas in Europe and the US in late 2023.

– It is about Edwin Moses’ life and career, explains Karsten Warholm’s mother and manager Kristine Haddal in a press release on Thursday – a week before the convention at Warholm’s original home ground.

– Getting a visit from the legend Edwin Moses is great. I have met him before, but it is of course very special and nice to be visited by Edwin Moses at home in Ulsteinvik, says Karsten Warholm.

The producer of the Moses documentary is Emmy winner Leopold Hoesch, who is behind documentaries about Angela Merkel and Al Pacino.

The track and field meet in Ulsteinvik will be shown on NRK 1 from 20:00 to 21:00.

It is visited by several prominent guests, including Jamaica’s most active sprint star Elaine Thompson-Hera.

Wilson Kipketer (50) and Colin Jackson (55) are also coming. The Brit won, among other things, the silver medal in the 110 meter hurdles during the Olympics in Seoul in 1988. He has won two WC gold outdoors. Danish Kipketer has three World Cup gold medals outdoors in the 800 meters and a silver medal from the Olympics in 2000. He set a world record for the distance in 1997.
