Swedish star clicked – ended up in a wrestling match

Iceland – Sweden 30-35

When Iceland’s Ellidi Snær Vidarsson laid on the ball and destroyed Sweden’s counterattack opportunity early in the second half in Friday’s big game in the Handball World Cup, the Swedish star goalkeeper Andreas Palicka lit up.

A clearly annoyed Palicka pushed and lifted Vidarsson around.

– It’s wrestling, commented former national team manager Gunnar Pettersen for Viaplay.

– If you look at the situation, he provoked me. Hitting does not belong in handball. I aimed for the ball but hit him in the stomach. I just have to admit that it was my fault. He provoked me, but I’m not bigger than I can say that I should have made a different decision there, says Palicka to Viaplay after the match, reproduced by Expressen.

It ended with two minutes for both Palicka and Vidarsson.

– He is lucky to miss two minutes. He could show the red card. He apologizes, but there is no excuse for the overreaction. It is reasonably violent, says former national team goalkeeper Ole Erevik in the Viaplay studio.

Palicka quickly calmed down and apologized for his behaviour, and there was a good atmosphere with Vidarsson.

After the two-minute mark, Palicka has returned to the pitch and played big. He was very involved in the fact that it was a 35-30 victory for Sweden.
