The newspaper writes that the Swedish ski star is calling it quits as early as spring 2027.
– Yes, that is what I have said to myself. I thought I had also told you (the media), she says.
Expressen confirms that they have not heard of this before and a decision which in that case means that his career will be over in just three years.
Karlsson will still manage to complete three championships before she gives up as a cross-country runner.
In 2025 there will be the WC in Trondheim, in 2026 there will be the Olympics in Italy and in 2027 the WC on home ground in the skiing metropolis of Falun.
– I like having “deadlines”. That’s when I work best. That’s how it’s always been. Ever since I went to school. It’s a bit for my own motivation. Knowing that what I’m doing won’t last forever. That I will take care of it fully and do everything I can for these three years.
Karlsson has put a brilliant year behind him. She is listed with ten podium places in the World Cup in 2023/2024. One of the biggest achievements last season was probably the superior victory in the five-mile race in Holmenkollen.
She also has ten WC medals in her collection already.
It can therefore be much bigger in the next three years and she does not hide that it can be special to round off a career on home soil.
– Yes, it motivates me a lot to be able to finish writing that story in Falun, she says – and emphasizes that the plan can be changed.
