In 1972, Crystal Palace won 5-0 against Manchester United at Selhurst Park. This time it was almost as bad, because Palace won 4-0 – and it could have been more.

Bruno Fernandes was missing due to injury for the very first time, and the problems in defense were also bad, but only the biggest pessimists would have thought that it would be as bad as this.

Michael Olise has been heavily linked with United and he fired Crystal Palace into the lead in the 12th minute of the game – he scored the last time Ten Hag’s side visited Selhurst Park as well.

Jean-Phillippe Mateta doubled the lead for Crystal Palace a few minutes before the break, after rounding a Jonny Evans who unfortunately looked a little rusty. This was the sixth home game in a row where Mateta has scored.

Tyrick Mitchell made it 3-0 in the 58th minute, before Olise scored his second goal of the day with the last goal of the game.

Palace were closer 5-0 than United were 4-1 – but it should also be mentioned that Casemiro had the ball in the net twice. The first was canceled due to a goalkeeper attack from Rasmus Højlund, while the second was canceled for a fairly clear offside.
