Håkon Volden was born in the same year that RBK beat Valencia in the Champions League.

Now he is hailed by one of those who started the historic battles.

The 16-year-old impressed against Glimt at the weekend and was again calm and good with the ball despite RBK going out against the cup in Fredrikstad on Wednesday.

– I played a match with him last year against Verdal. There were some very mature players there, but he was so calm with the ball that you would think he was 35. He didn’t care that he made mistakes, says Per Ciljan Skjelbred in the podcast “Rasmus & Saga”.

He continues:

– I’m an incredibly big fan of his and I’ve said that to others too before he started playing: “Just wait and see”. The boy has something that no one else has, says Skjelbred in the podcast.

RBK’s new coach Alfred Johansson has come in and shown that he is not afraid to use young players who are untested at the level. In addition to Håkon Volden, he has made 18-year-old Jesper Reitan-Sunde a permanent player on the team.

With Tomas Nemcik out with an injury for a few more weeks, there are many indications that Volden, who will be 17 at the end of May, can count on more playing time.

– Håkon is a very good player who has great, great potential. He will have the opportunity in the future to show how capable he is and he is doing that today as well, Johansson told VG after the meeting with FFK in the cup, primarily disappointed to be knocked out.

Volden wrote in our new three-year contract with Rosenborg. When he meets VG in Fredrikstad, he seems very little affected by all the commotion around him.

– It has been as usual, only that I have played matches. I really just want to continue with that. That’s what’s fun, he says.

– This is new from what I am used to, but I have to endure the strain like everyone else. So it’s important that it doesn’t go too fast in terms of the load, but they have control over that, says the stopper talent to VG.

Rosenborg meets Brann in the series on Saturday night – two teams that are both out of the cup. Follow the match with VG Live from 6pm.
