John Achterberg has now himself confirmed that he will leave Liverpool FC after the season. The goalkeeper coach has worked at the club for 15 years, having been a player and coach at Tranmere before that.

The Dutchman has written a resignation letter which he has posted on social media.

One of the best in history

Here you can read the resignation letter to Achterberg.

“After 15 years at the club, it is with a heavy heart that I have decided to leave LFC. It has been an incredible and wonderful journey for me and my family. I have loved every single day that I have worked at this brilliant club, but after thinking for a long time I have come to the conclusion that the time has come for a new challenge”.

“I want to thank FSG for all the support they have given me over 15 years – Mike Gordon, John Henry, Tom Werner and Billy Hogan. It has been a privilege to work for the biggest and best club in the world, with the incredible supporters. I’ve loved everyone – Scouse or not, all over the world.”

“A special thanks goes out to manager Jürgen Klopp and all the joy he has given us. Klopp has fulfilled all our dreams at LFC. He is one of the best managers in the history of the city, the club and the football world”.

“He created world-class teams with his qualities as a “man manager”, made us regain our faith, to become winners and a giant in Europe and the whole world”.

“Personally, I cannot thank him enough for everything he has done for me and the family, for the trust he has given me to do the job as well as possible, for the joy, the inspiration and the leadership qualities”.

Thanks to the family

“I want to thank everyone who has worked at the club with me. They ensured that every single day I have worked here has been a pleasure. I will miss everyone tremendously. I have made so many friends and great colleagues, from coaches to all the goalkeepers and players I have worked with. In addition, we have those who work in the stadium, the kitchen staff, the kit team, the medical apparatus, the recruitment department, nutrition, the press department, the media, the video and picture crew and the analysts. I’ve probably forgotten someone, but everyone has made it a privilege to work here.”

“I would also like to mention my family and thank my wife Monique, Lindsey, Hayley and Kirstey for the support they have given me to do the job around the clock and allow me to be the best I can be for LFC. All are true LFC supporters and will be for life. They are proud to be part of the LFC family and the city”.

“We will always be red and follow everything that happens around the city and the club closely. It has been the best time of our lives,” he writes.
