Skaslien and Nedregotten lost a nerve-wracking WC semi-final

The curling couple Kristin Skaslien and Magnus Nedregotten fell short in the WC semi-final on Friday, after a semi-final where it wavered back and forth and was not decided until the last stone.

In the match against Estonia, Norway gained an early advantage and led 4-2 after four innings. Estonia fought back to take three points in the fifth round, but Norway regained the upper hand after taking two points in the sixth round.

With a 6-5 lead, Norway had some control before the last two rounds, but two points to Estonia ensured full excitement going into the last regular round.

Norway needed one point to get an extra round and two points to win, where Norway had the last stone.

Estonia was able to place its last stone in the middle of the nest and then the Norwegian couple were unable to respond. This resulted in one Estonian point and 8-6 to Estonia in total.

– It is one of the best games we have played here. In terms of performance, we are quite close, and then there are a couple of situations where we communicate quite poorly, says Nedregotten to NRK.

– In the name of hindsight, it was stupid of me to train them last year, but that’s how it turned out, says Nedregotten with a smile.

In the run-up to the WC last year, he helped the Estonian pair with both technique and tactics.

Skaslien and Nedregotten took silver in the World Cup back in 2021. Silver was also won in the Olympics in 2022. Saturday will be the World Cup bronze final against Switzerland.
