It is Sagosen’s club Kiel that states that Sagosen has suffered an ankle fracture. Thus, a longer stay on the sidelines awaits the 26-year-old.

Among other things, he loses the rest of the important season finale for the German club. “A news we would rather be without,” the club writes, and states that Sagosen will probably be out for six to eight months.

– This is a tough blow for us, says sports director THW Kiel to the club’s website.

Sagosen loses both the remaining matches in the German series, but also the Champions League play-offs on 18 and 19 June. THW Kiel will meet Barcelona in the semi-finals in just two weeks. Victory there gives a final place against Hungarian Telekom Veszprém or Polish Lomza Vive Kielce.

In addition, can also lose the Handball World Cup in January. The championship, which is organized by Poland and Sweden, starts on 11 January and lasts until 29 January.

Former NFL doctor David Chao, who now lives by analyzing sports injuries with precision https://twitter.com/ProFootballDoc/status/1533446437567987713writes at VG’s request that after watching the video of the injury, he suspects ankle fractures for Sagosen.

He was right about that.

– Grotesque injury, but good opportunities to heal well, writes Chao.

He compares the injury to the horror injury of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, who broke his ankle during an NFL game in 2020. He had surgery and was back from injury after just over nine months.

NRK expert Geir Oustorp watched the match on TV. He assesses the situation as follows:

– He realized that it was serious and that he needed help when he was carried off the field. Because it did not look good, says NRK expert Geir Oustorp to VG.

– Is it the rest of the season that smokes now?

It was after eight minutes that things went very wrong for Sagosen. In a Kiel attack, the 26-year-old took the lead and ended up with his left leg in the wrong position as he landed after passing the ball.

The 26-year-old lay for a long time, holding on to his leg and shaking his head, while the TV cameras caught him screaming in pain.

– We hear him shout. Is it possible? Is it the rest of the season that smokes now? asks Viaplay commentator Peder Seierstad, who shortly afterwards stated this:

– It is in the landing there that something smokes. He yells at you.

Teammates flocked to help. Eventually, Sagosen was helped up and supported out of the hall by two people, while the audience clapped rhythmically to support him.
