The mother and daughter were found dead in their flat on Boxing Day. According to family members, Elin Sofie Løvåsen and Tone Løvåsen have been ill since mid-December.

Now the preliminary autopsy report for them is ready. According to the South-East police district, lung disease was found in both of them.

– No certain cause of death has been proven, but lung disease has been found in both of the deceased which may be of importance, says police attorney Ingrid Wiik. The preliminary autopsy report does not specify what type of lung disease was found, they write in the press release.

Police prosecutor Ingrid Wiik also says that findings indicate that the mother died on 23 December, but that the daughter did not die until 25 December.

The family despairs: Elin Sofie (28) and Tone (61) found dead on Boxing Day

– There are many unsolved questions in this case, says Wiik. One of these is linked to the time of death. We hope that the further investigation will give us an explanation for this, she says.

Got an ambulance visit

Tone’s nephew and Elin Sofie’s cousin, Magnus, told Kragerø Blad Vestmar that the family is struggling with great grief after the deaths. The two are said to have fallen ill in mid-December and on 21 December they were visited by paramedics to check their health. Magnus states that health personnel were present with them for just over an hour.

None of them were taken to hospital.

– I don’t understand how this is possible in 2022. It shouldn’t be possible. The reason why I choose to tell about this is that I hope this will never happen again to anyone else, Magnus said. and continues:

– They were sick and asked for help, but were rejected. Then they died in their own home. Now they no longer exist. It is completely incomprehensible to me.

Internal review

Ambulance manager Knut Inge Brekka Skoland at Telemark Hospital confirms to KV that the ambulance visited the women on Wednesday 21 December.

– We had experienced health personnel on site and good and thorough measurements were taken of the patient. It is true that we were there for a while. After conferring with the doctor, we recommended that she contact her GP, explains Brekka Skoland.

– There were no immediate findings that day that indicated that the patient needed to be transported directly to hospital. She was encouraged to call 113 if her health worsened, but we never heard anything more.

The ambulance manager was also clear that they will now review the incident internally to see if anything could have been done differently.
