The junta’s massacres are paid for with money from business and luxury hotels. On one of the hotels, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has spent NOK 3.7 million since the coup.

On the afternoon of Christmas Eve 2021, a dozen trucks, cars and motorbikes were on full fire along the side of the road at the village of Mo So in southeast Myanmar. Witnesses later told how they assumed the drivers and passengers had gotten away, writes the Myanmar Now news website.

It was only when the fire had subsided that they understood what had happened. On the loading docks they found piles of blackened, twisted human bodies. The bodies were unrecognizable.

The Myanmar military killed at least 35 civilians in what became known as the Christmas Eve massacre at Mo So. Four were children. Two worked for Save the Children. Several had their hands tied and had their skulls smashed to pieces.

The massacre is just one of many the military junta in Myanmar has been behind since they seized power a year and a half ago. Norway has repeatedly condemned the brutality. At the same time, the Norwegian embassy has spent several million kroner on one of the hotels which is the source of the junta’s income.
