Layoffs in the gaming industry have unfortunately been a common occurrence in 2024. The latest studio to announce it will be closing its doors is Good Job developer Paladin Studios. The studio revealed earlier this week that their “quest [hadde] has come to an end” and that the 45 employees had unfortunately lost their jobs.

The Dutch indie developer was established almost 20 years ago, and is known for working on titles such as Cut the Rope Remastered, Amazing Katamari Damacy and My Tamagotchi Forever. Over the years, they have collaborated with companies such as Nintendo, Apple Arcade, Netflix, Zeptolab and Bandai Namco.

In a statement on its official website, the team said: “For nearly 19 years, we’ve put our heart and soul into creating games that make you smile.”

The statement continued: “However, over the past few months we have unfortunately not been able to land enough work to cover our burn rate. Yesterday we reached a tipping point for our financial security. To proceed with the current outlook would have been an irresponsible decision that would probably have led to insolvency. We have therefore taken this step to ensure a proper liquidation, where all employees receive a proper severance package and the studio remains debt-free.”

However, the studio assured fans that the games will continue to live and that they will receive ongoing technical support in the future.
