On Tuesday, Fpu leader Simen Velle admitted a previous drug conviction, in which he was twice caught by the police, where he was convicted of possession of around 100 grams of hashish. He also said that he had used cocaine twice.

Since then, many people have come out and supported the politician who is working for a seat in the Storting. At the same time, Conservative Party leader Erna Solberg is out with an ever so small index finger.

– In his case, the volume is so large that it makes it a serious matter. At the same time, I am very much a supporter of the fact that when you have taken your punishment, you have taken your punishment and deserve a second chance. There are many who have done stupid things in their youth, says Solberg to VG.

She believes the Velle judgment would not have been accepted in the Conservative Party.

– If a sitting youth party leader was caught with 100 grams of hashish and convicted, he would probably have to resign, she says.

The former prime minister is then asked by the newspaper whether she has tried hashish or other illegal drugs:

– As a matter of principle, I have never answered that, replies the Conservative leader.

Solberg goes on to say that the Conservative Party will not legalize hashish and cannabis. They will, however, put in place a drug reform where drug addicts with small user doses will receive help and follow-up instead of punishment.

In the Velle judgment, which Nettavisen has access to, it is stated that the Fpu leader was summoned for questioning after the police seized 100 grams of cannabis that he and two others had obtained. In total, the three must have paid between NOK 11,000 and 12,000 for the drug.

“He chose then and there to say that it wasn’t him, and that he had no knowledge of who owned the drug,” the judgment says, which also emphasizes that Velle later retracted this in a new interview.

Velle did not want to comment on Nettavisen’s information on Tuesday.
