Goalkeeper coach in Aalesund, Frank Mathiesen, has resigned from his job after 34 years in the 1st division club.
Aalesund writes in a press release and states that Mathiesen is transferring to Sunnmøre Football Circle to become a player developer.
– The timing could certainly have been better, but it was now that this job appeared. So that’s how it turned out. The club is struggling a bit right now, but I am 100 percent sure that AaFK will return at the top level. AaFK is and will remain my club, even if the workplace is somewhere else, says Mathiesen.
Asking for help
There is a storm around the 1st division club the other day after they only have four points after five league rounds. This has led to them being second at the bottom of the table.
TV 2 has recently reported dissatisfaction in the player group and revealed on Tuesday morning that there had been a meeting between the players and coach Christian Johnsen.
– The player group has had a meeting itself, they have looked at themselves and what they can do better. It was a very good initiative. Then the players, the coaches and the sports manager have jointly had a chat in the dressing room about what we expect from each other. And about the way forward, the coach told TV 2.

Later on Tuesday evening, a board meeting will also be held at the club, but chairman Gunnar Haagensen has gone a long way to protecting the coach, according to the channel.
Frank Mathiesen has a long record in Aalesund. The former goalkeeper played for the club between 1988 and 1991, before returning in 1995 and representing the tango jerseys until he retired in 2003. Since then he has been part of the coaching staff.
