Matapour’s ex-wife: Expressed that someone was following him
Matapour’s ex-wife explained herself for the first time in the Oslo District Court on Tuesday. The ex-wife has not previously given a statement to the police.
She says she decided to testify in court when her friend, who testified last week, urged her to do so. The friend experienced, according to the ex-wife, that a number of the questions she was asked would be better answered by the ex-wife herself.
The woman was married to Matapour for several years. She says that she did not know that her ex-husband was struggling mentally, or that he was disabled, until the marriage ended.
– I didn’t understand it until I got the diagnosis, and I only got it when we broke up. Then things fell into place, she says.
Matapour has previously been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.
The ex-wife says that Matapour expressed that someone was following him. He could change his sweater if he went in and out of a shop, the woman explains, and could say that he was followed when he delivered the children to the nursery school.
She says he was not very verbal, and spoke little to her. She did not realize that Matapour was with friends a lot, and believes that the acquaintance with the accused Arfan Bhatti must have started after they separated. She herself has never met Bhatti, she explains.
When they first got married, he spent a lot of time in the library reading books about Islam, she explains further.
A few months before they divorced, she saw Matapour with a gun in their shared home.
She says he washed it in the bathroom and packed it when she came in and asked what he was going to do with it. She did not get a clear answer to this, she explains.
