On Monday afternoon, the police went to a mosque following a report that a package containing an unidentified powder had been received in Stavanger.

It is currently unclear whether the powder can be dangerous, the police write.

The mosque in question, Eyup Sultan Mosque, is located in Hillevåg in Stavanger.

The police received a report about the case at 3.40pm.

– We can confirm that we have received a threatening letter with powder. Now we have to see what the police find out, and come back with more information when it is available, says chairman Ahmet Cokerer at the Rogaland Islamic Community Association (ISMG)/ Eyup Sultan Mosque to Dagbladet around 5 p.m.

– There are several people inside the building. One person has been in contact with the package’s contents, but no injuries have yet been reported. Chemical divers are on their way to carry out a safe examination of the package and its contents, the police write.

The police bomb squad has been mobilized and will arrive with the police helicopter, the police say.

– The police have asked for assistance from national aid resources to handle the package in the best possible way. It is not considered to be a danger to the public, the police write.

PST is informed and assists local police on an ongoing basis, confirms senior advisor Eirik Veum in PST to VG.
