Two cars have collided head-on in an 80-zone at Juklestad, between Førde and Skei in Sunnfjord municipality.
Five people have been sent to hospital after the accident. The extent of the damage is currently unknown. The road was completely closed for a period.
Emergency services were notified of the accident at 1047.
– It is a serious accident. The current status is that four people have been taken to hospital in an ambulance. One person has been transported by air ambulance, according to the incident leader for the police, Ole Jørgen Eide.
All patients were supervised by health personnel before being sent to Førde Central Hospital.
– One of the cars is in the ditch, the other in part of the road. We are talking about a high-energy accident, Jostein Steinsland Hauge at 110 West.
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration announced early on that the road could be closed for a longer period of time. At 12 o’clock, one field is open for manual routing.
Any detour for cars is county road 5690 on the south side of Jølstravatnet. Larger vehicles were advised to drive around highway 5.
Long queues have formed in the city.
The police do not know the cause of the head-on collision.
– We have documented the scene, speak to witnesses and carry out technical investigations, says team leader Eide.
