Despite this, the experts Lars Uhlin-Hansen and Hege Cathrine Luytkis will not conclude that the same person killed both girls.

– We find no basis for drawing such a conclusion, said Uhlin-Hansen in the witness examination in Sør-Rogaland district court in Sandnes on Monday.

The two experts, who are both senior doctors in forensic medicine, have been given the mandate to go through the findings of the original investigation and assess them with new eyes.

The coroners have, among other things, had access to photos and reports from the crime scene investigation and from the autopsy of the girls.

Two of the questions the experts have been tasked with answering are the following:

  • “Was one or more stabbing objects used on the victims?”
  • “To what extent are the injuries compatible with one or more perpetrators?”

Unusual method of killing

To the first question, the experts have answered that the stab wounds may have been inflicted with the same object, but cannot rule out multiple stab wounds either.

The experts then got into the question to which most interest is attached in the ongoing trial: Could the same person have been behind both murders? The indictment against Jan Helge Andersen is based on such a theory.

– What we can say is that a very unusual killing method was used, said Lars Uhlin-Hansen in the witness box.

– Could have learned from each other

He followed this up by saying that the person or persons who carried out the murders must have known very well what they were doing by killing in this way.

NRK does not want to go into more detail about what this method of killing consisted of.

Precisely this may indicate that it is the same perpetrator on both girls, but we still cannot draw that conclusion, said Uhlin-Hansen.

He justified this by saying that a possible second perpetrator may have seen how the first stabbed, or that they could have learned this together, for example by watching it on film.

And as the experts established during the witness examination:

Fortunately, we do not have a lot of experience with stab wounds in children.

The entire court day on Monday was spent on the forensic examinations of Lena Sløgedal Paulsen and Stine Sofie Sørstrønen.
