Train, Tax return | Vedum in the morning rush: Remember to check travel deductions in your tax return

--

Finance Minister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum (Sp) and tax director Nina Schanke Funnemark took a trip out in the morning rush hour to talk to people about tax deductions.

The two met at Oslo S in the morning to remind people that there are now only five days left before the tax return must be delivered.

Remember to check deductions – and pay particular attention to travel deductions, the advice read.

Finance Minister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum (Sp) points out that the government has increased the travel allowance for people with a long journey to work, but that you have to take care to fill it in yourself. Almost 300,000 people received a travel deduction last year.

– The tax return has become very simple, and much is filled in for you automatically, but if you have a claim to travel deductions, you must, as a general rule, enter this yourself in the tax return, reminded Vedum.

Last year you could get a travel deduction for a daily trip between home and work of 37 kilometers round trip for 230 working days a year. Previously, the daily travel distance had to be 67 kilometers round trip.

2.5 million Norwegians have delivered

Over 2.5 million have already submitted their tax return, and 1.6 million have received their tax settlement.

There are more people who have both delivered and received the settlement than at the same time last year, according to the Swedish Tax Agency. But the director of taxation still expects that many people will wait until close to the deadline.

You can not submit the tax return if all the information is correct. But:

– Then you must be aware that the earliest you can get the tax settlement and any money to your credit is paid at the end of June, says tax director Nina Schanke Funnemark.

In total, NOK 20 billion in tax has been paid out, which is more than NOK 5 billion more than at the same time last year.

The Director of Taxation: Check the guide

A common piece of advice is to list deductions if you are unsure. Schanke Funnemark would like to nuance this.

– If you are unsure whether you are entitled to a deduction, I would recommend checking the Tax Agency’s deduction guide. You can find it on our website, she says.

In the guide, you can tick the deductions that may apply to you. You will then get a general overview of what you can enter in your tax return and how you should enter it.

Many will change their tax card

As usual, many have contacted the Swedish Tax Agency to ask for help with the tax return. Many questions are about the distribution of loans and interest, how they can change the value of the home plus practical questions about the payment of residual tax and when the tax money will arrive.

A recurring question is changing the tax card.

– Both last year and this year, we have seen that many people contact us to ask for help to change their tax card. It is positive that many people have an active relationship with what tax they have to pay during the year, says Schanke Funnemark.

The tax return must be submitted before midnight on Tuesday 30 April.
