Fire women, Barcelona | Barcelona crushed Brann’s Champions League hopes: – Playground

BARCELONA FIRE 3–1 (5–2 on aggregate):

The Brann women were faced with an almost impossible task at the Estadi Johan Cruyff on Thursday evening, and were dependent on victory if they were to hope to progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Led by a particularly good Caroline Graham Hansen, the home team showed why they are considered the world’s best football team, and overran the visitors from the first whistle.

Despite 5–2 on aggregate, former national team player Solveig Gulbrandsen is clear that the Brann players can be proud of their performance:

– Several of the Brann players here have run well over several miles. This means that they get it more in their style, and don’t get “pissed on”. They certainly didn’t, is Gulbrandsen’s verdict after the match.

Barcelona created chances on a continuous basis, but had great difficulty getting the ball into the net.

After several attempts, however, it was on the scoresheet, thanks to a moment of magic from reigning Balon d’Or holder Aitana Bonmatí.

Graham Hansen was unable to get on the scoresheet, but created a flurry of chances from his right wing.

The Norwegian may not register the assist on Barcelona’s second goal, but Fridolina Rolfö should give Graham Hansen a real pat on the back after she scored the easiest goal of her career.

– It’s a bit frustrating, considering that we feel we should have scored more goals. But I’m happy that we progressed, despite the fact that we “only” scored five goals, says Graham Hansen after the match.

During the match, you could hear the visiting supporters booing the winger on several occasions.

She thought nothing of that:

– They’ve probably been drinking beer and enjoying themselves in the sun, but if I’m being completely honest, I don’t quite see the point in cheering on the opponent and cheering on your own, Graham Hansen asserts.

– Almost so you can’t believe it

Despite falling behind by three goals in total, the people from Bergen did not give up, and after 70 minutes they were finally able to let loose their cheers.

18-year-old Signe Gaupset pushed forward nicely in the field and served a millimeter-precise breakthrough pass to Tomine Svendheim, who had recently come on from the bench.

The 18-year-old made no mistake, rolling the ball in a controlled manner into the far corner – via the bar and in.

– Brann has scored in Barcelona! The 18-year-old is served by another 18-year-old, and it’s almost unbelievable, exclaimed Endre Olav Osnes.

The 18-year-old was ecstatic after the referee had called off the match.

– Right now I don’t really remember anything about the goal. It’s quite surreal. It’s crazy that it’s 3-1, but it was a completely sick feeling, says Svendheim after the match.
