--

Just before midnight on 8 May 2023, a man in his 20s was abducted from the Tyholt area and taken to a cellar.

Here he was held against his will and threatened with a gun. The perpetrators threatened to kill the 20-year-old’s father, a well-known artist from Trondheim, if he did not pay NOK 1.5 million. The son was later released. Afterwards, the artist was subjected to serious threats and paid a total of NOK 750,000 to an account number between 25 May and 31 May.

There were six men who were prosecuted for various roles before and after the gross robbery which led to the artist having to borrow large sums from friends and family. Five men have been convicted of aggravated robbery and one of money laundering.

Big deal

In December, four teenagers were convicted of having contributed to the kidnapping itself. In the last trial, which went before the district court in April, six men stood on the dock. These were accused of having participated in various ways in what the prosecution believes was a robbery of the musician, as well as for having laundered the money.

Two of the defendants in the case, a 25-year-old from Sweden and a 25-year-old from Eastern Norway, were among those charged under section 79 of the Criminal Code, the so-called mafia section. They both pleaded guilty to robbery and money laundering, but believed that this was not part of the activities of an organized criminal group.
