The wedding took place out in the fields, near the front in the fierce war against the Russian invasion forces. Under the trees, Ukrainian and Norwegian flags were hoisted, and Eira wore a white wedding dress with a veil, her hair was beautifully styled, and in her hands she held a bouquet of violet flowers.
Here she, the Norwegian foreign fighter, said yes to her fiancé, the Ukrainian company commander who only goes by the nickname “Jabari”.
They then posed in front of a Ukrainian tank and with the rest of the group that is with them out in the field.
Present were the commander of the fire support group, the leader of the sanitation group of which Eira is a part and friends from the airborne troops.
The health worker from Finnmark became a foreign fighter
– To marry the love of my life, in the middle of the war. God, I love these people so much. My husband, my team, she writes on Facebook, along with the video published from the wedding.
Sandra Andersen Eira from Porsanger in Finnmark is a fisherman, health worker, former representative in the Sámi Parliament. Quite quickly after Russia invaded Ukraine, she was about to register as a foreign fighter.
Last autumn, she met “Jabari”, during fierce fighting in the south-east of Ukraine, at the very edge of the front.
– There were hard matches. Constant attacks, constant operations. We lived and fought completely on the front line at the time, Eira has told TV2 about what it was like there when they met.
The people in the field are the family
Last November, he got down on one knee and proposed to her. To the laughter and applause of her fellow soldiers, she agreed. But they only got the opportunity to arrange a wedding on Friday 24 April.

– The operation always comes first, but now we get to share it with the same people with whom we have fought side by side, crossed minefields and bullets together. We really live a fantastic life, she writes herself on Facebook.
VG contacted Eira, but did not get in touch with her on Saturday evening.
