– A shock to see that the childhood home has burnt down. It is disgusting and very sad to see, says Tone Andvik Totlandsdal to NH.

She stands with her husband Johnny Totlandsdal outside the house that caught fire in Lyngmarka on Alverflaten.

For now, they know little, only what the police and fire service have been able to tell them. The parents, who live in the house, are on holiday abroad.

– I haven’t had the opportunity to talk to them yet.

Fear of spreading

Incident leader in the police, Frank Listøl, tells NH that they received a report of smoke from a detached house at 10:46. They went out with all agencies, both air ambulance, ambulances, police and fire brigade.

– We quickly confirmed that the house owners are abroad and that there were no people in the house, he says.

They do not know the cause of the fire, but can confirm that neither animals nor people have been harmed.

Both fire crews from Knarvik and Åsane went out.

– When I arrived at the site, there were open flames on the first floor. We went in with smoke detectors to check if there were people in the house, says Christer Skei, emergency manager at Nordhordland fire and rescue.

They immediately thought of the danger of spreading, especially to one house that is close by, but there are obstacles.

Can’t live in the house

The fire was extinguished at 11:38. There is still a good amount of crew in place working with heat-seeking cameras to ensure that there is no heat inside the house.

– There is extensive fire damage on the first floor, in several rooms and extensive smoke damage on the second floor. It is not possible to live in the house, says Skei.

Some fire crews will be present throughout the day to make sure it doesn’t flare up again.

Forensic technicians will arrive over the weekend.
