The birch pollen season is now underway in the lowlands, and Saturday can be a demanding day for allergy sufferers in Eastern Norway.
Extreme spread of birch pollen is then expected, which is the highest level in the Norwegian Asthma and Allergy Association’s national pollen warning.

The birch emits large amounts of pollen and therefore causes major problems. For many, birch is the only type of tree that causes allergy symptoms.

The definition of what “extreme spread” entails is at least a thousand pollen grains per cubic metre.
According to Brobakk, it is not necessarily the case that those with heavy birch pollen should stay indoors, but he nevertheless makes a clear call:
– They should at least take their medicine, Brobakk asserts.
If you are among those who are strongly affected by pollen, then the next section will be pleasant reading. The extreme pollen spread is not expected to last long.
– As long as it doesn’t rain and it stays warm, the extreme spread will continue. But now I saw that it was reported that it will rain in Eastern Norway on Sunday, so there will probably be a short break then, yes.

Over one million Norwegians have a pollen allergy and it is not just in Eastern Norway that allergy sufferers will now notice that the season is underway.
With the exception of northern Norway and the mountains in southern Norway, a heavy spread of birch pollen was announced on Saturday in the rest of the country. In addition, moderate spread of Salix is expected in large parts of the country.
In Troms and Finnmark, the spread of pollen has not yet been recorded, while in Nordland the spread of Salix has only just begun. Also in the mountains in southern Norway, there is currently only a modest spread of Salix.
