“O’Hamer” is the headline act at the special festival which will take place in Sandefjord on 21 and 22 June. Here wel Bent Hamers Hometown Sandefjord is proud of the celebrated director with a two-day festival where all his films are shown.
It happens in connection with that The National Library in partnership with Norwegian Film Distribution has completed the restoration and digitization of all of Hamer’s feature films, at the same time as his company BulBul Film turns 30 years old.
With the collection box Ben Hamer are all eight feature films by the critically acclaimed and award-winning filmmaker released together for the first time. Most of the films have not been available on video for many years, and never before in HD quality. The release is part of The National Library’s investment “Norwegian film taxes”. Several of the films in the release have been restored in collaboration with Bent Hamer.
Bent Hamer’s “original characters, understated humor and quirky universe” have created excitement among audiences, critics and at film festivals both in Norway and internationally, and his films have both won prestigious awards and been selected as Norway’s candidates for the Oscars, says NB’s mention.
– Bent Hamer stands as one of the most famous Norwegian auteurs of the 2000s, says film scholar at the National Library Ingrid Synneva Holtar. – His overall film production testifies to a set of recurring themes and stylistic choices, and has provided the basis for talking about a “Hammerian” film language.
All of Hamer’s films are shown at the festival. After the screenings on Saturday, the artists and musicians will Kristin Asbjørnsen (Factotum), Kaada (O’ Horten, Home for Christmas and 1001 grams) and Hans Mathisen (Hymns from the kitchen) hold a three-part concert with music from the films they have composed for.
