(Halden Arbeiderblad) – The police have stopped around 25 Swedish cars at Svinesund, says operations manager at the East police district, Svein Walle.

The Swedish motorists are suspected of having been on their way to a “street meet” in Norway. “Streetmeet” are events where many cars gather to drive fast on public roads.

– These have been deported back to Sweden, continues the operations manager.

The Swedes thus had to turn around and continue the party at home in Sweden.

The police have here adopted Section 7 of the Police Act, enforcement of public peace and order.

It states, among other things, that the police can intervene to stop disturbances of public peace and order or when the circumstances give reason to fear such disturbances.

Walle tells NTB that the police had received information that a “street meet” was planned.

– There was information that they were going to block stretches of road and race. Based on that, we have gathered our forces, stopped them and turned them around at the border in cooperation with the Swedish police, says Walle.

He says that there were only fast cars of the type Audi R8, Lamborghini, BMW and so on among the 25.

– They have no worthy purpose for traveling to Norway. Those who had to turn around were obviously on their way to participate in what was planned, says the operations manager.

– Most of the drivers were men in their 20s.
