A casual visitor to Søgne care center on Tuesday might stumble across a large number of prams just inside the entrance area. The children’s ward of a care center may not be what a visitor expects to find. Nevertheless, on this day there are close to 20 babies who, together with their parents, sit in a ring in Kafe Marie.
– We see this as a win-win situation, says the initiator, deacon in Søgne parish, Lene Nilsen Berge.
Together with activity and leisure coordinator Kikki Eikaas Try, she organizes baby singing for the seventh time this spring at the aforementioned care centre.
– This is an offer that can be found in several places around the country, but it is probably not that common that the offer is added to a care centre. I got the idea after seeing that it is done like this in other places, contacted the care center here in Søgne and then we were up and running. It is social for residents, babies and parents, says the deacon.
The offer of gathering for baby singing for parents and babies is under the auspices of the Church of Norway and is intended as a social offer where people in this phase of life get the opportunity to get to know each other through a joint activity.

– At the care centre, we think it was great to be asked to take part. We see residents appreciating the activity, seeing little babies, maybe holding a hand and hearing old familiar songs. It’s great that we bring together the oldest and the youngest in the village in this way, adds Kikki Eikaas Try during today’s singing session.
