From 26 April to 10 May, a large NATO exercise takes place in the North Sea.

A total of 12 nations, including Great Britain and the United States, are participating in the “Dynamic Mongoose” exercise. The Scandinavian countries also participate in the annual exercise, which takes place between Iceland, Norway and the Faroe Islands.

The NATO exercise focuses on advanced anti-submarine warfare. A total of 15 vessels and six air units are participating in the exercise, and there are thus many visible – and invisible – warships off the Norwegian coast.

– We carry out an advanced training program which means that all participating nations and units are equipped for relevant challenges in today’s security policy picture. The cooperation with NATO allies in the maritime domain is an important component of NATO’s overall efforts to deter aggression, says the head of the navy, Flag Commander Trond Gimmingsrud, in a press release.

Norway provides one submarine and the frigate KNM “Roald Amundsen”. In addition, the frigate KNM “Otto Sverdrup”, which is currently part of NATO’s standing frigate force, is participating. The Netherlands, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States are also participating with submarines, the Norwegian Defense Forces informs.
