Hilde Louise Asbjørnsen marks 20 years as a recording artist and is looking forward to coming to Ålesund.

With your head in old books

Summer is fast approaching and she is busy finding the best shows. Also from Ålesund and the surrounding area. That means hours of research and digging into old books at the National Library.

– The revues that survive, and which I love to reinterpret, are those that have a general humor, a sound base and a slant that people can still recognize in. Some of them are about the time in which they were written, but get completely new meaning when interpreted today. I feel a bit like Miss Detective, because it’s kind of a mystery to be solved. The song must not only be well written and sound good to the ear, it must also have that little secret extra that hits the laughing muscles and the heart at the same time. It must make us laugh as much today as 50-100 years ago, she says and hopes Bypatrioten’s readers will contribute.

Do you know a good proverb?

– There is definitely someone who is sitting on what is a well-kept secret, which deserves to be brought to light again. And then we would like to hear from them, she says.

Throughout his career, Asbjørnsen has tiptoeed between jazz and humor. She has released 13 critically acclaimed albums with her own and others’ songs, made a revue with Lene Kongsvik, played major musical roles, toured with her own solo shows and appeared on TV in everything from conducting competitions to quiz shows. She is constantly described by the press as a mixture of Billie Holiday and Marilyn Monroe, which confirms this duality. And she has no plans to quit.

– In no way. Now I think we are working on material for the next 20, she says with a twinkle in her eye and talks about planned tours both at home and abroad with everything from big band jazz, intimate duo concerts and revue concerts, to her self-described tribute to the great singers from the last century in the performance “Stardust”.

When she comes to Ålesund on 14 and 15 June, she promises festive reunions with gems from, among others, Kari Disen, Lalla Carlsen, Monica Zetterlund and Alf Prøysen, in addition to local treasures.

– Revue culture is strong all over the country, also in Sunnmøre, says Hilde Louise, who makes playful interpretations and breathes new life into shows we all can.

And it all happens in a familiar revue format.

– I have with me a pianist, some robber stories, great hats and a lot of love, she adds.
