Almost every time I say I’m a climate activist, I get the question “oh yes, you don’t like the diesel car, then?” or “don’t you eat meat?”. And every time I have to explain that it’s not quite that simple, that you can’t just assume that I’m this or that based on a piece of information. But that’s how it is.

It is a scary trend that young people can’t bear to care, or that they are unable to see any positive progress with the climate fight and are therefore not involved in it. But we’ve got all the work, a lot of work to clean up everything the previous generations have left behind.

So it is is it really so strange that as a teenager I get a little discouraged, along with the vast majority of people my age?

The root of the problem are you adults You do everything in your power to avoid having to do anything about the problem you yourself have created. We young people cannot escape the fact that it is we who must save the world, we must find all the good solutions, that we must think anew. But the reality is that most young people cannot bear to take a stand on the climate crisis because it is too tiring or petty. The state of the world is simply not cool to care about anymore.

I think that most attitudes young people have come from parents or grandparents. It is about how young people are spoken to. Because if no one gives us hope, how can we believe that the problem can actually be solved? The fact is that we are losing this faith.

Instead of to put the problem on each other, we must actually try to work together, lift each other up. We’re not getting anywhere this way.

1 May is a day of solidarity. You adults must be in solidarity with our future. Then perhaps the fight against climate change will be a little easier.
