The man was picked up by an ambulance after receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the spot, according to Bergens Tidende.

The man was conscious when he was taken away, says operations manager Tatjana Knappen in the West police district to VG.

– The man has been taken in an ambulance to the emergency department at Haukeland University Hospital, says Knappen.

The incident happened close to the event’s medical station, which meant that the man quickly received help from a doctor and the Red Cross, writes Bergensavisen.

– It is no coincidence that they are standing right there. They were quickly up with the tablecloths to shield both him and those who witnessed this. And not least so that the doctors can work in peace, says the main person responsible for the race, Roger Gjelsvik, to the newspaper.

14,800 people are registered for this year’s Bergen City Marathon (BCM), which is a record.

Two years ago, marathon participant Ulrik Vabø suffered a cardiac arrest shortly after finishing the Bergen City Marathon. He was taken to hospital, but his life could not be saved.
