Putin, Russians in Norway | Norwegian intelligence must answer for the “Russian cabins”

There have been alarming reports that Russian officials with close ties to Putin and the Russian regime may own and reside near Bardufoss Airport, a central area for Norwegian military activity and NATO operations.

This has been allowed to continue since 2010.

This situation raises serious questions about the effectiveness of Norwegian intelligence and NATO in detecting and dealing with security threats.

Further information from the press indicates that, among other things, Sweden has rented cabins with Russian owners during joint exercises.

It is disturbing that Russian citizens can have access to areas that are crucial for Norway’s national security and defence, especially in view of the ongoing tension between Russia and NATO.

This makes clear the need for thorough review and action from the Norwegian authorities and NATO to ensure the protection of sensitive military areas.

Norwegian intelligence must be held responsible for this serious negligence in the monitoring of critical areas. A thorough investigation is required to identify failures in surveillance systems and response mechanisms, as well as necessary reforms to improve intelligence work.

This includes better cooperation and information sharing within NATO to deal with potential threats more effectively.

Persons responsible for negligence must be held accountable, and disciplinary measures or changes in management may be required to ensure that similar situations do not occur again.

Norwegian citizens and allies in NATO have the right to feel secure in the knowledge that their national security is being looked after in an effective manner.
