Airspace closed over Northern Norway – NRK Nordland

Airport manager at Tromsø Airport, Ivar Helsing Schrøen, confirms this to NRK.

– The challenge is from Bardufoss and northwards. We are unsure of the cause, since it is so recent. We found out about it 15 minutes ago, he says.

It has been suggested that fiber breakage could be a cause, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

– We don’t quite know yet how it affects traffic. Nor a forecast for when we will get it fixed.

He says that there is nothing so far to indicate that there are the same problems that have been in the south of the country this week.

– There is nothing to indicate that it is connected with what happened in the south yesterday, no.

Affects Tromsø Airport

The airport manager says that it is calm now, but that this could have consequences for the time to come.

– In Tromsø it is quiet now, there are quite a few planes waiting for the 17th rush hour, when most planes leave Tromsø.

– We will see where these planes end up, it depends on the correct time.

This can primarily affect Tromsø Airport, says Schrøen.

NRK has been in contact with the press service in Widerøe, who at the time were not aware that parts of the airspace in northern Norway had been closed. They are currently looking into the matter.

NRK has also been in contact with Avinor, but they had no information as of now.
