Malin Høgsand Leirvåg and Odd Arne Fosse will be the students’ representatives on the NTNU board.

On 19 April, it became clear who will be the representatives of the NTNU board. In a press release, the Student Parliament says that they received 3,160 votes out of 40,757 students entitled to vote. This gives a turnout of 7.75 percent.

There shall be one female and one male representative on the NTNU board. These must also have their personal belongings. Malin Høgsand Leirvåg was elected as the female representative, and Siri Mostad Larsen as her deputy.

– First of all, I want to say thank you very much to everyone who voted for me. Thank you to everyone who has supported me and given me the confidence to represent the students on the NTNU board. It is great to sit on the board and work on important matters for NTNU. I am ready to work well with my colleagues, says Leirvåg in the press release.

Couldn’t find the winner

The male representative was announced several hours after Leirvåg. The reason was that the electoral board could not get in touch with the winner. The election board wrote the following on the student election website on Friday afternoon:

“On Friday, the electoral board did not get in touch with the male candidate with the most weighted votes before the announcement in the election broadcast. The electoral board is responsible for announcing the result and chose not to publish the result until the candidate himself had been informed of the outcome.”

It then became clear that Odd Arne Fosse will be the male representative on the NTNU board, with Lasse Zetterlund as deputy. Like Leirvåg, Fosse also expressed enthusiasm about representing the NTNU students.

– I am very grateful for all the support I have received and that I have been chosen. I hope that over the coming year I can help promote the students’ voice in the NTNU board. There are several exciting processes we are about to embark on, and anchoring the choices NTNU makes in the needs of the students is essential, he says in the press release.

Lower turnout this year

This year there has been a lower turnout in the NTNU board election compared to last year. This year, the turnout was 7.75 per cent. Last year, it was 8.2 percent. Chair of the electoral board, Matilde Brox Bordal, would have liked to see the turnout higher.

– This year there has been a very high level of the candidates’ involvement during the election campaign. Despite fewer candidates than before, voter turnout is relatively stable with a slight decline. We would have liked to see it higher. I would like to thank all the candidates who have stood for election and all the students who have taken part in this spring’s student elections, she says.
