On Monday morning, a man in his 30s died after being hit by a light rail vehicle.

Police prosecutor Kjersti Katrine Svendsen says they have now received surveillance videos from the area where the fatal accident occurred. She is responsible for prosecuting the case.

The videos the police have obtained are from two light rail sets, including the Bybanen involved, and from the stop at Nonneseter.

– From several angles

– As of now, I can say that we are starting to get a good overview of what has happened and the causal relationship. But there is still some research to be done before I say anything more. It is also a bit about consideration for the next of kin, who must be informed first, says Svendsen.

In follow-up questions, she replies that she does not go into details now, neither about the point of impact, the exact location or any lighting regulation.

– Based on the videos, I can say that it happened at a pedestrian crossing.

– All the videos show the incident?

– There is film in the material that shows the incident from several angles. So, as I said, we have a relatively good picture of what happened.

– What does this mean for the investigation?

– This means that we are a long way ahead.

– Dramatic for the driver as well

– Has the light rail driver been questioned?

– He was questioned on the spot. Now that we have the films, it is only natural that we do another interrogation. I can’t say when. We must take into account that it is a dramatic situation for the driver as well.

On Monday, it was announced that the driver of the Bybanen has the status of a suspect. The police were keen to point out that this does not mean that they see no reason to blame the driver for anything.

SHK: No separate investigation now

In an e-mail from the National Accident Investigation Board (SHK) on Tuesday afternoon, it is stated that the commission “is not launching a separate safety investigation into the accident”.

– This does not mean that the accident will not be investigated, since the police will conduct their investigation independently of our decision, writes Ida Hogganvik Grøndahl, SHK’s department director for track.

She points out that the decision is not completely definitive, but based on the picture they have formed of the course of events and the knowledge they have of the case as of now.

– Can be considered resumed

– The Accident Investigation Board has a certain amount of choice when we decide which cases we go into. In this lies an assessment of how much safety improvement our investigation has the opportunity to contribute, beyond clarifying the sequence of events itself, writes Grøndahl.

– Should new and significant information come to light, the case can be considered again.
