The police in Kristiansand responded at 9pm to a mass fight between around 15 girls in the city centre.

– They are approximately 17 years old, says operations manager Øyvind Hægeland.

– It is worrying that they can commit such gross violence in their teens, and so openly. It was perhaps just a coincidence that someone intervened and stopped it before it caused damage, he says and adds:

– Unfortunately, this is not an unknown phenomenon in Kristiansand.

He says that the police are unraveling what happened.

– At least two girls have been attacked by a gang of girls, and almost attempted robbery. Then some adults intervened and stopped this, he says to VG.

A girl is said to have been kicked while she was lying down, but no one has been injured.

– We have spoken to the victims, and eventually managed to identify some of those we believe to be the perpetrators, says Hægland.

There should be no known motive, and the police are working to find out whether it was a random collision.

– It is probably an environment that we have under supervision and are concerned about, he says.
