Fjelltun kindergarten knitted for the climate

--

On 13 March, the knitting campaign started, where young and old in Fjelltun kindergarten sat down together in the premises of the kindergarten in Kråmyre to knit as long a scarf as possible.

The youngest was four years old. The oldest 94. And together they knitted meters of scarves.

Gathered to knit

– The youngest who knitted was four years old, the oldest 94, so the commitment has been great, says Ann Iren Glimsdal, who is the initiator of the campaign.

41 children go to kindergarten, and this week the scarves were sewn together and then measured.

Some tipped 60 metres, others a hundred, and the most optimistic were well into the million.

The parking space was too short for the long scarf.

In a long line, the children were distributed in the car park, but it quickly proved to be too short. Thus the line had to continue back.

– The tape measure was too short, we looked at the plus. And one of the children tipped 68 metres, and the result was very close, namely 66 metres. Almost enough to wear a scarf around the nursery, she says.

– The scarf will now be sent to Oslo where it will be combined with contributions from the rest of the countries. And we will have the scarf around the Storting on 12 April, says the initiator.

Must shut down the Storting

The action is called “Strikk en grense”, and the action to wrap the Storting in a warm scarf takes place on Norway’s Day of Abundance, i.e. the day we have used up one year’s natural resources, and started using the resources of the future, says the action wording where 1.5 – the degree target is central.

It is not unnatural that it is in places like Fjelltun kindergarten that the commitment comes. It is the children who will inherit the globe. They follow along, and they learn from us.

Here it is Hanna who checks that the measurement of the scarf is not a joke.

The kindergarten at Fjelltun is concerned with engaging the children in society and the environment.

66 meters of scarf have been measured. And when Ann Iren Glimstad and the other adults in the nursery roll it together, it becomes a large knitted ball which will now be skated together with the other scarves the organization “Mammaopprøret” is behind.

– The Mammaopprøret also has a sister organization in Sweden which has a similar action. The plan is to combine the actions in May and June, ahead of the elections to the EU Parliament. Thus, the scarf will also go to Brussels and the EU Parliament, she says.

And won’t that warm our politicians by 1.5 degrees, well, we don’t know.

Good knitting!

Ann Iren Glimsdal is employed at Fjelltun kindergarten, and the initiator of the campaign they have participated in. Here the “ball” with scarf is mounted and ready for measurement.
The correct distance is important to avoid the scarf going to the ground. Selma and Tala are ready for action.
Astrid and the others place themselves in the right place.
Selma and Tala ensure ground clearance.
The adults can add up the results. Here, Ann Iren Glimsdal (tv) and Elisabeth Hast Rønnestad state that the result is 66 metres.
Finished measuring. Now the scarf is going to Oslo.
Such a large ball of knitting weighs several kilos. Are, Vilje Oline, Eline and Hanna in action.
Johanne (TV) and Solveig warm themselves on the scarf. Olav does the same behind.
Many people can warm themselves on the scarf. Now this gang will send the entire stasis to Oslo to “warm up” the Storting.
