The verdict was appealed on 28 March. TV 2 gets this confirmed by the man’s new defender.

– I do not want to go into much detail, other than that he disagrees with the decision from the district court, says defender Tarik Abbou.

In the district court, the man claimed that he was insane and should therefore be sentenced to compulsory mental health care. The prosecutor wanted to imprison the man for ten years.

The boy was seven years old when he was found abused and tied to a bed in Bergen in 2022. The abuse must then have continued for a three-week period. He was subjected to torture-like abuse and had, among other things, suffered burns, wounds and injuries all over his body, according to the indictment.

“We are talking about such extensive and cruel treatment of a small child, that even the ability of someone to manage to carry out something like this – not just once, but over weeks at a stretch – appears to be special and extraordinary,” the judgment reads. .

The boy came to Bergen from a country in the Middle East in the summer of 2022. The father had sole care for his son, and the mother lived abroad.
