The National Library

The National Library is one of the country’s largest and most important cultural institutions, and one of the foremost sources of knowledge about Norway and Norwegian affairs. Based on the Transfer of Duty Act, we collect and preserve what is published in Norway within all media types, such as books, journals, newspapers, music, film, photography, in broadcasting and online. By virtue of the collection and by making it available via digital services, the National Library forms the basis for documentation, research and learning, and contributes to creating identity and belonging.

The National Library will contribute to the further development of Norwegian libraries as active and current social institutions, and aims to be one of Europe’s most exciting and modern national libraries.

We have approx. 600 employees in Oslo and Mo i Rana, and a budget of NOK 680 million.

The National Library wants to reflect the diversity of the population, and participates in the government’s inclusion efforts. We therefore encourage qualified candidates to apply, regardless of age, gender, functional ability, ethnic background, sexual orientation or gaps in the CV. Working conditions will be facilitated for employees with disabilities.

Information about a disability or gaps in the CV can be used for registration purposes. The names of all applicants may be published even if the applicant has asked not to be included on the official applicant list, cf. Public Officials Act § 25. Copies of certificates and diplomas must be attached to the application, and originals must be presented at the interview.

Are you interested in music as one of our most important cultural expressions? Do you want to help make the country’s largest music collection available to as many people as possible?
