Hegerberg and Mjelde are out with injuries and have not been in the playing squads for their respective club teams recently. As a result, they have, among other things, missed the quarter-finals in the Champions League, where Lyon (Hegerberg) and Chelsea (Mjelde) have both progressed.

– I spoke to Ada this week. She was very close to being available for these matches. The same with Maren, but the matches come just a little too early, says national team manager Gemma Grainger to NTB.

On Maundy Thursday, the Norwegian Football Association presented the selection for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers. Maria Thorisdottir is also out with an injury.

Synne Jensen, who has scored a lot for Real Sociedad in Spanish football, is in Norway’s A squad for the first time since 2021.

Could get a prison sentence after the WC kiss

– She has impressed, and it is great fun to see that she is having a good season. I’ve seen her play for the U23 national team as well, so it’s exciting for her to get the opportunity on the A national team again. We already have strong competition in the attack, so getting into that environment and getting the opportunity is very positive for her, says Grainger.

New Haavi disappointment

There is still no Emilie Haavi to be seen in the squad despite a good game in Rome. She was last part of the Norway squad in the WC last summer.

– There have been many difficult decisions regarding several players, including Emilie. The competition in this team is very strong. We selected 23 players for the matches against Croatia in February, and we had a positive start. I had to make three changes due to injury. We have a long list of players and for me it is a process where I have to make sure I know all the players. When the players have earned the opportunity, they will get it, and they will get it at the right time, explains Grainger.

Received the greeting from the superstar: – The wildest thing is that he knows who I am

Norway plays Finland at home on 5 April and away to the Netherlands four days later. Italy is also in Norway’s group.
